Today’s the day.
Today is one of my best friend’s last days in town. Tomorrow she leaves for greener pastures (or is it redder sands?) in Broome. And while I am excited for this next adventure in her life, I can’t help but feel a bit sad that she is leaving.
Our friendship really began one (slightly drunked) afternoon when she convinced me to join her in my first (and only) triathlon the next day. She loaned me her bike and a swimming cap before running off to do the real triathlon even while I compete the ‘triathlon for beginners’ consisting of a 800 metre swim, 5km bike ride and a 2.5km run. Never again I tell you.
Since then we have been hiking and camping, had many a Sunday brunch, held each other up at the gym, been on a road trip, travelled overseas, and Netflix and binged together.
T pushed me to try new things, especially at restaurants where ordering one meal for yourself was NOT an option, and stepped into the role of mum friend easily but begrudgingly.
While I know that our friendship is not over, it will be different as she enters this new chapter in her life.
T thank you for the past 4 years, and thank you for giving me a another more important reason to visit Broome. Good luck and I’ll catch you later.
